Gumbo Boogie's Story

Gumbo Boogie was founded in 1995 by bassist/vocalist Steve Page (Dan Toler, Rock Bottom, Diz Watson, Diamond Teeth Mary), with a focus on New Orleans piano rock, 50’s rock/rockabilly and old-time country. At an early gig, Ryan Langley (keyboards, accordion, vocals) said he played accordion and thought playing some Zydeco would be fun (turns out Ryan was a national champion accordionist). The group’s drummer, Chaz Trippy (8 years conga player with the Gregg Allman Band), readily agreed and the band’s musical journey began in earnest. Over the years the boys added some blues, more C&W and oldies, lots of classic rock, some soul, a pinch of funk, a bunch of originals, and even some traditional and 50’s/60’s jazz (sort of the NRBQ of the Tampa Bay area). Gumbo Boogie has maintained a steady schedule for 22 years – YES FOLKS, 22 YEARS – with this eclectic yet familiar musical trip through time. They’ve played festivals and special events all over Florida; return engagements at The House of Blues Orlando, Universal Studios Orlando, Skippers Smokehouse, and so on; been seen on national TV’s CBS News “Early Show”, performing at a Tampa Bay Bucs game, leading the crowd singing in the 7th inning stretch at a Tampa Bay Rays game, as well as numerous local cable and network-affiliate appearances; and been heard on community and alternative radio programs across the country.  Gumbo Boogie has opened for BeauSoleil. Buckwheat Zydeco (“There’s probably some big-name bands that’s little bit scared of these guys”); Marcia Ball (“This is a really good, fun band”); the Subdudes: and Tab Benoit (“Gumbo Boogie put on a great show opening for us”), to name a few. Want a good-time, street-festival, fais-do-do, musical-comedy, pit-barbecue, sock-hop, juke-joint party band that can fire up a crowd? Well then, Gumbo Boogie would love to perform at your venue or special event..!
